We started the project faced with a swale area with a very bad drainage problem (doesn’t work very well). Not to mention a deteriorating sidewalk that has been slowly caving away due to the extreme slope, forcing much of the properties water to flow into that same area. We found the solution was to install a retaining wall and to bring up the grade along the sidewalk to stop any further deterioration. With that, it allowed the water from the upper part of the property to flow down to a nearby rain garden. Then, below the wall, we were able to modify the swale allowing the water from that area to flow to the same rain garden.
